Q: Is my business eligible for grants?

A: Not all businesses are eligible for grants. Businesses who are expanding, making energy efficiency improvements, or have a product innovation may be eligible. Contact us to discuss you project.

Q: How does a grant writer get paid?

A: Grant writers typically charge by the hour or by the grant. They can give you a good estimate of how long it will likely take them to complete the project. The more you can help provide information, the less time it will likely take them.

Q: How long does it take to write a grant?

A: Grants vary dramatically from one page simple letters to 100+ page documents including attachments. Sometimes federal grants will indicate the anticipated number of hours to complete the application. Read the grant directions and review the application to get an idea of how long each grant will take.

Q: I’m just starting a business; are there grants out there for me?

A: There are very few grant opportunities for brand new businesses. However, there are resources to help develop business plans, explore market opportunities, or perhaps receive loan assistance.  Check out your state’s department of commerce or economic development for potential opportunities.

Q: How much do you charge?

A: IGS typically charges by the hour or works on a retainer basis. However, for specific grants such as SBIR/STTR, a flat fee is charged unless the scope varies from basic application completion and submission.

Q: How do I find a grant writer?

A: Ask other professionals, your economic development office, or even check LinkedIn for grant writers. Check references and make sure you have a good level of comfort and trust for the person via a first meeting.
